Math Resources
Math is all around us.....
It's a favourite question of middle school students, "When am I ever going to use this?" and I imagine that at home you are getting that same question. Well the answer is simple, math is all around us. We use it everyday, when we build things, when we calculate a tip or a sales price. How do we know if we divided things up between friends fairly? MATH of course. I grew up learning math by practicing on worksheets, perhaps you did too. But we know now that kids need to understand what they are doing AND practice it. By moving to an online format, some of the practice and understanding will come from doing some of these activities in your home. I have started a resource list that I will continue to add to support our work together. This is in addition to the google classroom work, and will support what is happening there. Don't worry if you don't use all of it, (or any of it). We are all doing our best in these challenging times.

Games: the best way to support your children is to play with them. Make math practice fun!
Baking and Cooking: you get to eat your math
Apps and online Games: I will have a list of these as the district releases them

Baking/cooking in the KitchenWhen you are following a recipe, you are thinking about measurements. You are sometimes doubling (or if your family is larger, you're tripling or quadrupling) or halfing. I am attaching a video that explains math in the kitchen AND has a much healthier recipe than the frogs on my Kitchen Adventures page:
